I became involved in the "birth world" about 7.5 years ago. I found my tribe among other natural birthers, breastfeeding, stay at home moms. I learned from them. Copied their parenting styles. Or didn't. I made friends that never would have become my friends had I not just had a baby. I became enthralled in the birth world. I just HAD to be involved in it some how.
Three and a half years ago, I attended my first birth where I was NOT the laboring mom. A friend from church knew how badly I wanted to become a doula and she allowed me to attend her birth. It was the most amazing experience of my life. Not only was I there for a friend of mine, but I got to see first hand what birth was like for someone other than myself. I cried so much that night and I was on a birth high for days following.
A few months after that, I attended my 2nd birth for someone I did not know. She was a laboring mom who needed extra support and I was excited to be part of her birth. This time, I was not "emotionally involved" with the laboring mom. She was not a personal friend of mine, but has since become one. Once again, I cried after that birth and experienced that "birth high" again. At that moment, I KNEW this was my purpose. THIS is what the Lord created me to do.
I had been following Donna Ryan (Banned From Baby Showers) and Sarah Clark (Mama Birth) for years. I knew I wanted to become a Birth Boot Camp instructor. I certified with BBC in August 2015 and it has been the best decision I've made in my business.
I have learned so much and have made some amazing friends. I've also had the privilege of teaching up to date, relevant, and interactive classes to numerous moms and dads. I was created to teach. I was created to be a doula. I have found my passion and my purpose.

This past weekend, I had the opportunity to attend the Birth Boot Camp retreat for instructors and doulas. We had amazing speakers that taught us how to balance life, self care, how to care for pregnant and postpartum women of color, our online presence, and so much more. It was an amazing weekend to be with my tribe, my people, my other birth junkies. These women understand my passion for birth because they have the same passion.
